Your home is in Heaven!

Your home is in Heaven!

When I felt the push to start this blog, with the Holy Spirit wanting me to minister to busy Catholics, it seemed like a joke!

What do I know about teaching others to grow in holiness?

In many ways, I do NOT feel like an expert in holiness. I didn't major in theology in college. And I definitely don't spend as much time in formal prayer as I should.

But I've realized that I have gotten pretty good at sometimes recognizing God's hand in the little things. And living out my Catholic faith in little ways that fit into my busy life.

I also realized that my rosaries and chaplets, while functional tools, also encourage daily prayer.  A daily reminder of the beauty of God's creation.

And my chaplet subscription box is designed to teach about Catholic devotions in “bite size" moments. Perfect for a busy Catholic!

With my products, the Holy Spirit had been prepping me for this latest call, so He finally convinced me that writing this newsletter is where He wants me. Maybe I'm not an expert in weaving my Catholic faith into my busy life, but I'm also not a novice!

For many years now, my Catholic faith has influenced all my decisions, my everyday life. It’s always in the back of my mind.

Which doesn't mean I spend all day doing holy things.

I don't!

I'm a wife and homeschool mom with 6 kids, running a small business. I definitely spend my fair share of time doing the necessary and unnecessary (looking at you Facebook😝).

But I try to talk to God throughout my day, asking for help from the Holy Spirit, Mary, and the saints (I have St. Anthony on “speed dial” 😅).

And when it's easier to tell a small lie to the 4 year old to prevent a meltdown, I force myself choose to speak truth.

When I get irritated with another driver, I say a quick prayer for them.

When I take my daughter to her weekly appointment, instead of scrolling on my phone, I visit Jesus in the church next door.

I love the saying “live in the world but not of the world." (based off of John 15:19 and John 17:15-16), and I'm doing my best to live that way.

So after much brainstorming and prayer, the tagline I came up with for this blog is “Seeking the Sacred in ordinary moments.”

Striving for holiness in our everyday lives. Living my busy, ordinary life as wife and mother, but not forgetting THE ultimate goal: growing in holiness and getting home to Heaven.

My message for you today is:
Don't forget that this is not your home. Your home is in Heaven.

And you can grow in holiness while living your busy life.

It may be in small ways, but that's ok!  I don't do this perfectly either, but I'm doing my best. So let's do this together!  And strive to be the “little pencil” Mother Teresa speaks about:
“I am a little pencil in God's hands. He does the thinking. He does the writing. He does everything and sometimes it is really hard because it is a broken pencil and He has to sharpen it a little more.”
Some ideas for adding holiness to your ordinary life:
  • Do you reach for your phone to check notifications as soon as you wake up (like me!)?  Instead try using your phone to read the daily Mass readings or listen to a short Catholic podcast.  Or even better don't pick up your phone at all; grab a bible or prayer book first thing.
  • Getting ready to have a difficult conversation? Or taken by surprise by a difficult question?  Ask the Holy Spirit to help!  It can be as easy as “help Holy Spirit!”
  • Engage the senses:  play Gregorian chant or church hymns as background music in your home, light a candle or put flowers next to your Blessed Mother statue, keep small reminders of your Catholic faith in every room (like a crucifix).

How are you going to try to add holiness to your everyday life?  How do you already do this?  Let me know in the comments!
